When is rerouting a dryer vent worth doing?

Ask it this way: is the duct long, or is it wrong? A second-floor laundry closet running up a chase to a roof cap is long. That is usually a cleaning problem. A hall-closet stacked unit added during a remodel, snaking above ceilings for 20-plus feet, is wrong. No amount of brushing fixes geometry. Rerouting means picking a shorter, straighter path and cutting a new termination.

The candidates repeat themselves in Cardiff. Garage-corner dryers punched straight through stucco into a hood that faces prevailing weather. Postwar ranches where the exterior-wall run is short but the foil transition behind the dryer is kinked flat, leaving maybe two inches of clearance. Corroded coastal dampers that no longer swing.
