How a dryer vent gets installed in a Cardiff home

The route gets decided first. We pull the dryer out, measure the run, and look for the shortest path to an exterior wall. Then we check what is behind the drywall or stucco: studs, sill plate, wiring. The hole gets cut, the wall hood set and sealed, and rigid metal duct run back to the dryer with joints taped, never screwed. Screws catch lint. The last four feet is a UL-listed transition, kept straight, not crushed against the wall.

Cardiff makes some of this decision for you. Postwar ranches usually allow a short run straight through the exterior wall. Garage-corner dryers go through stucco, which means a proper flashing detail so wind-driven rain does not track in. Second-floor closets often have no choice but a chase to a roof cap, and those caps need a spring damper with no screen behind it.
